The Old Gaol

Winner of the Aylesbury Vale Design Award (2001).The Old Gaol in Buckingham, now used as a museum required an architectural intervention to provide additional space for exhibiting.

The project called for the installation of a roof over the existing courtyard space, the former prisoners exercise yard, to create a new exhibition space within the museum. The decision to construct the roof from structural glass resulted in a spectacular internal space, juxtaposing both old and new, to create a light and airy exhibition space.
