MacIntyre School

MacIntyre School is located within a conservation area and the grounds of a listed building. The challenge was to synthesize modern methods and environmental standards with traditional construction while tailoring towards children with special needs.

The design team used workshops with staff and students to work through strategies to inform the design. A material and colour palette design for the school’s corridors was used in order to facilitate the students movement throughout the building, this was achieved through the use of differing textures and colours to which the students respond to in different ways.

A stain glass window was produced for the Main Hall, integrating elements of the children’s work with Makaton principles, to create a message saying “Welcome to MacIntyre School”
